This position reports to the President and leads the full lending platform.

- Director of Edge Fund
The Vice President of Lending (VP) is a newly created position and provides strategic leadership for Intend Indiana’s lending platform. The VP is responsible for its overall growth, performance, and long-term sustainability. Serving as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the VP oversees lending strategy, capitalization, portfolio performance, product development, lending operations, and external partnerships.
The VP strengthens organizational capacity by developing high-performing teams, cultivating strategic capital relationships, aligning lending opportunities with demand, and ensuring the organization’s overall sustainability and growth across all initiatives remains financially strong while advancing its mission.
The incoming VP will join Intend at a moment of significant opportunity and continued growth. Intend has rapidly grown into a statewide community development organization by building strong reputation through trusted partnerships, innovative approaches, and a demonstrated commitment to community impact. With a diversified funding base and an expanding array of financing tools, Intend is well positioned to broaden its reach and leverage new sources of capital. The Vice President of Lending will play a critical leadership role in strengthening and aligning Intend’s lending strategies, expanding lending opportunities for small businesses and affordable housing, and advancing financial sustainability. This role will also help identify opportunities to leverage Intend’s broader community development activities and partnerships to maximize investment and impact across Indiana.
The VP will lead that work by simplifying overlapping products, designing how capital is grown and deployed across both funds, and building a team that is expected to grow significantly. As a member of senior leadership, they will work collaboratively to help set a 5–10-year strategy built on intentional growth, and serve as a leading voice with foundations, funders, investors, and communities who all make the work possible.
This is an exceptional opportunity to join an organization dedicated to combining commercial, and affordable housing development, financing, and capital markets in a high-impact and coordinated way to advance community development and neighborhood revitalization. The successful candidate will be entrepreneurial and forward thinking, and will have demonstrated experience in diverse and creative fund development, creating mission-aligned partnerships, and building high-performing teams.

Critical Skills, Knowledge and Behaviors
We recognize that strong candidates may bring these capabilities through a variety of professional experiences, including CDFIs, banking, community development, affordable housing, economic development, public finance, philanthropy, impact investing, government, or other lending and financial institutions. Candidates are not expected to have experience in every area listed below. We are interested in how an individual’s collective experience, leadership approach, and demonstrated results position them to help strengthen and grow Intend Indiana’s lending platform.
- Capital Formation & Financial Partnerships. Experience developing or supporting strategies that increase access to lending capital and strengthen an organization’s financial capacity. Relevant experience may include raising or managing debt capital, program-related investments, deposits, grants, investor capital, credit facilities, or other sources of funding; developing bank or investor partnerships; negotiating participation or co-lending arrangements; and cultivating relationships with financial institutions, foundations, government agencies, or institutional investors.
- Growth & Scaling of Lending Operations. Experience helping an organization, lending platform, business line, or program grow in size, reach, sophistication, or impact. This might include expanding a loan portfolio, entering new markets, introducing new products, improving systems and processes, building teams, increasing lending capacity, or supporting geographic expansion. We value candidates who can demonstrate how they contributed to meaningful organizational growth, not simply maintained an existing operation.
- Lending, Credit & Deal Structuring. Strong understanding of lending fundamentals, credit, underwriting, portfolio management, and risk. Experience with more complex financing structures is valuable and may include loan participations, co-lending, credit enhancements, public-private financing, NMTC, LIHTC, government-supported lending, impact investing, bond financing, or other layered capital structures. Candidates do not need experience with every financing tool; the ability to understand, evaluate, and structure increasingly complex transactions is important.
- Leadership & Talent Development Experience leading teams and developing other leaders. This may include managing managers or senior professionals, building or restructuring teams, recruiting and developing talent, establishing accountability and performance expectations, creating meaningful KPIs or dashboards, and fostering collaboration across departments. We are particularly interested in leaders who can build capacity in others rather than relying solely on their own technical expertise.
- Mission-Oriented or Community Finance Experience connecting lending and investment decisions to community or economic outcomes. Relevant backgrounds may include CDFIs, community or commercial banking, affordable housing finance, small-business lending, housing finance agencies, economic development organizations, community development corporations, public-sector finance, or other mission-oriented institutions. An understanding of how to balance mission, financial sustainability, credit quality, compliance, and impact is especially valuable.
- Strategic Relationship Building. Ability to develop trusted relationships with a broad range of partners and stakeholders. This may include banks, foundations, investors, government agencies, developers, small businesses, community organizations, CDFIs, industry associations, and other financial or community development partners. Existing networks are valuable, but equally important is demonstrated ability to build new relationships and translate those relationships into meaningful partnerships.
- Building & Leading Through Change. Experience building something new or leading through organizational growth and change. Examples may include launching a division or fund, integrating lending functions, entering a new market, redesigning an operating model, strengthening lending infrastructure, or helping an organization transition to its next stage of growth.
- Strategy & Execution. Ability to move between big-picture thinking and implementation. The VP of Lending will need to help shape lending strategy while also ensuring that the people, capital, systems, policies, partnerships, and accountability structures are in place to execute it. Strong candidates will be able to describe situations in which they helped turn an idea or strategic objective into measurable results.
- Risk, Portfolio & Financial Stewardship. Demonstrated judgment regarding credit risk, portfolio performance, compliance, financial sustainability, and responsible growth. Relevant experience may include portfolio oversight, credit policy, loan committees, asset quality, delinquency management, loss mitigation, concentration risk, loan servicing, regulatory or funder compliance, or development of risk-management practices appropriate to a growing lending organization.
- Results & Impact Orientation. A track record of using data and measurable outcomes to assess performance and inform decisions. Depending on prior roles, results might include capital raised, portfolio growth, borrowers served, businesses financed, affordable housing supported, geographic expansion, revenue generated, improved portfolio performance, reduced losses, new partnerships, or other measurable community and financial outcomes.
- Collaborative & Enterprise Leadership. Ability to lead lending as part of a broader organization rather than as a stand-alone function. The VP should be able to work across teams, identify opportunities for lending to support broader organizational and community strategies and balance the needs and priorities of multiple lending products, programs, partners, and markets.
