INDIANAPOLIS – Intend Indiana, in collaboration with the Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD), is pleased to announce the Home Gathering event on October 30, 2024, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at 855 Udell Street. This event celebrates Intend Indiana’s ongoing efforts to increase affordable homeownership options in the Near Northwest-Riverside neighborhood and offers the community an opportunity to learn more about the diversity of housing types available in the area.
The homes, including the townhome at 855 Udell Street, are part of Intend Indiana’s Affordable HomeMATTERS initiative, funded by a $488,000 award through the City of Indianapolis’ Vacant to Vibrant program and supported by a $5 million New Market Tax Credit project awarded by Community Housing Capital (CHC), a national Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). Affordable HomeMatters will provide two lots adjacent to two DMD-owned lots. The Development will include the buildout of two duplexes, totaling four for-sale townhomes. It will aid in neighborhood quality of life, providing diverse housing types for low-income residents. These homes represent four of the 17 new affordable homes that Intend Indiana has developed and sold this year alone in the Near Northwest-Riverside neighborhood. Through the Vacant to Vibrant program, low-to-moderate income families have additional housing options to meet the needs of various family sizes, including townhome homeownership, contributing to neighborhood revitalization and homeownership opportunities.
“We’re excited to showcase the progress we’ve made with the Affordable HomeMATTERS initiative and to invite the community to join us in celebrating this important milestone,” said Intend Indiana President Stephanie Quick. “Our focus is on creating sustainable, high-quality, affordable homes for Indianapolis residents, and this gathering is an opportunity to see firsthand the impact of our work.”
“The City is proud to partner with Intend on this project, which will add to the list of affordable housing opportunities in Indianapolis,” said DMD Director Megan Vukusich. “Through the Vacant to Vibrant program, DMD was able to layer city-owned properties with federal dollars to accelerate the creation of quality, affordable housing. This model increases the City’s homeownership supply by helping local community development corporations close critical gaps in funding for new construction.”
The Vacant to Vibrant award, provided by the City of Indianapolis, has been instrumental in supporting affordable housing projects, allowing Intend Indiana to focus on homeownership for underserved communities. These Udell Street townhomes reflect the organization’s commitment to maintaining a diverse range of housing types, with larger units to accommodate different family needs.
