Mayor Joe Hogsett joined community stakeholders in the Riverside neighborhood last month to announce the City had surpassed its pledge to transform 2,000 abandoned and blighted homes – ahead of the deadline. The Mayor unveiled that the City and its partners had rehabbed, demolished, transformed, or constructed a total of 2,565 properties since the announcement of the “2,000 Homes in Two Years” initiative in Spring 2017.
The press conference was held at 1420 West 26th Street, a home RenewIndianapolis recently sold to the Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership (INHP) who will contract with BWI Construction, to rehabilitate and resell the property as affordable housing. The 26th Street home is just one of dozens of properties that have been targeted for transformation in the Riverside neighborhood over the past two years of the initiative. Renew Indianapolisacquired this home from the National Community Stabilization Trust.
